DISTANCE NEWSLETTER #3

Hope everyone had a good safe Christmas. As we get closer to our season the anticipation of track should start getting bigger. I know as I say this I might be the only one who is ready to watch some of you fly on the track. We had a very good turn out this week of practice. I can tell that a lot of you are excited to do better from last year and first timers are eager to learn. Due to weather we had to sadly cancel practice on Saturday. Thank you and sorry for those of you that came that day.  Keep in the mind that in the future we will still practice in the rain. Just like in cross country, they will not cancel a meet due to rain. So for this I like to practice in rain just so we get an idea of how it will feel. Plus its Southern Cali, it hardly rains here so lets enjoy it!!!
We haven't had most of the runners come to practice and I know that for most it's because of family being out of town. If this includes you please make sure that we still run on our own. For the VERY FEW that haven't been coming because of laziness... sorry I mean enjoying your break now is the time to snap out of that and come out. We will have an ALL-COMERS MEET in approximately 3 weeks.

Wed. 1/2 (8:30-9:45): Zamperini Stadium [Aerobic + Stretches]
Thu. 1/3 (8:30-9:45): Columbia Park [Anaerobic + Strength]
Fri. 1/4 (8:30-9:45): Zamperini Stadium [Aerobic + Stretches]
Sat. 1/5 (8:30-9:45): Redondo Beach [Aerobic + Strength]...... MOST IMPORTANT PRACTICE PLEASE MAKE THIS........  406 Paseo De La Playa, Redondo Beach, CA
Sun. 1/6 (on your own): 30-45 minutes

DISTANCE NEWSLETTER #2

Great first practice of winter break this past Saturday.  We had a good turn out but I'm sure we can continue to improve on it. Below I have posted our training schedule. If not having a ride is an issue please contact a teammate or post a comment and we will try to work something out.  I know that this is a time when families go out of town for the holidays but please try to maintain a consistent running habit.  As we have less than a month to get in shape. Previously I posted a time and date about our first meet, but we will probably do an All-Comers meet within the first weeks of January. I know we won't be close to being at our best but I feel that if you get an idea of where you are condition wise then it will motivate you to work harder and not only push yourself but your teammates.

Wed. 12/26 (8:30-9:30): Zamperini Stadium [Strength + Strides + Pilates]
Thu. 12/27 (8:30-9:45): Columbia Park [Long Run + Stretch]........ Bring a towel to stretch on/lay on
Fri. 12/28 (8:30-9:45): Zamperini Stadium  [Recovery + 300's]

If you are considering taking your talents to the next level and running in college please let me know so we can sit and talk about what we need to do to get your name out there. Plus it will allow me to have sufficient time to email different Universities.

Welcome 2012-13 Distance

       What a great turn out this past Tuesday as we had our first practice.  I would first like to congratulate the girls cross country team for making it to CIF-Finals. What an amazing performance at Mt.Sac during Pre-lims. I had the honor to be there and cherish a great accomplishment.  I am very eager and excited to commence this track season. This is will be my 3rd season as coach in Torrance and probably one of the more anticipated for me.  Season is just around the corner, this next month is one of the more important once since it is when we start working on our base. We have our first All-Comers meet February 2nd at Zamperini Stadium which is a meet that we host. 

      A date we should keep in mind is February 9th. This is the Paramount All-Comers meet but is also a qualifier meet for the California Indoor State Meet February 18 in Fresno. For further information I have posted a link below.
 *********** Run for the Dream *********

     We will have practice this whole week including Saturday where we will practice at Columbia Park 8:30am.  I know that winter break is a time where most travel out of town for the Holidays but we will still have practice. Those dates are TBA. If you can not make them because of a family trip don't worry it is fine just make sure that I get notified ahead of time. Keep in mind that December and January is our "Summer practice" like they had for Cross Country. If you or your parents have any questions don't hesitate to contact me. J_m_Ramos@yahoo.com

Fall and new students you should be coming to after school workouts. We are in  the weight room Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays - 3:15pm. We work out at Zamp , Fridays at 3:15pm and Saturday aqt 10am....
Remember:
Tryouts are the first week in January, 2013. We will work out over the Christmas break, please check with your coach. Click on the calendar to find ot tryout dates and times or click on the flyer.......
